The modern Dark Blues were formed by Ken "Sweet Cakes" Weaver in 1999, and have continually added new members and enthusiasts of baseball to its ranks. The gentlemen of the Dark Blues are all proud Nutmeggers who love the game and strive to play it authentically as sportsmen. The Dark Blues are a member of the 7 team New England Vintage Base Ball League (NEVBBL), which adheres to 1861 rules. In addition to the Dark Blues, the league includes the Melrose Pondfeilders (MA), Waterbury Connors (CT), Bristol Blues (RI), Coventry Citizens (RI), Essex Base Ball Club (MA), and the Lynn Live Oak (MA). The Hartford Dark Blues: A History

The Hartford Dark Blues were a founding member of the National League and played in Hartford from 1874-1876 before moving to Brooklyn, NY, for their final season, 1877. Among their many heralded members were Candy Cummings, the inventor of the "curved ball", Lip Pike, the first known Jewish major league player, Bob Ferguson, the first player/manager in baseball, and their founder and owner (later mayor of Hartford, governor of Connecticut, Senator, and first President of the National League) Morgan Bulkeley.
