Old Time Base Ball |

|
The game of base ball in the 1800s in a setting not unlike the one recreated at Old Bethpage Village Restoration. Today, played on a grassy pasture against the backdrop of the village landscape, Old Time Base Ball provides a base ball experience unlike any other. Base ball at Old Bethpage Village Restoration is a living recreation of the game as it was played in the 1860s and the 1880s. Volunteer players representing actual teams that played the game in 19th century Long Island bring back the excitement of base ball as it used to be. The games are played without script as actual contests, allowing the costume, the setting and the rules to force the outcome of the game into the mold of the era. Old Time Base Ball is vigorous and competitive, often bringing spectators to their feet in applause as a player makes an acrobatic catch or scores an ace on a well struck ball. Old Time Base Ball at Old Bethpage sponsors
two sets of teams. One plays 1867 rules and the other plays 1887
rules. All team names are taken from documented 19th C. Long Island
base ball clubs. Click for a copy of the Old Time Base Ball 2000
