Ed AchornEd Achorn: A Pulitzer Prize finalist for Distinguished Commentary, is the editorial page editor of the The Providence Journal. He is also author of Fifty-Nine in ’84: Old Hoss Radbourn, Barehanded Baseball, and the Greatest Season a Pitcher Ever Had. His latest book is Every Drop of Blood: The Momentous Second Inauguration of Abraham Lincoln. His reviews of books on American history appear frequently in the Weekly Standard. He lives in an 1840 farmhouse outside of Providence, Rhode Island.

A frequent announcer and umpire, he has been with the clubs for over 15 years. He is also a Professor of Industrial/Organizational Psychology at Wayne State University in Detroit.

The Story of Hamtramck Stadium, Then & Now

Tom DerryTom Derry: Tom, a 50 year old mail carrier, in 2010, saw the weed infested site of Gavin Field, later known as Briggs Stadium, and Tiger Stadium and led the movement to restore Gavin Field. Once Detroit decided to turn Gavin Field into a private ball field managed by PAL (police athletic league) Tom turned the Gavin Field Grounds Crew’s efforts to restoring Hamtramck Stadium. Historic Hamtramck Stadium is one of only five Negro League home ballparks still in existence. Hosted the 2018 VBBA Conference in Menomonie and attended the 2017 Conference.

Dustyn DubuqueDustyn Dubuque: Dustyn manages the Menomonie Blue Caps Base Ball Club, sponsored by the Dunn County Historical Society.  He is currently the Executive Director of Downtown Menomonie, a non-profit organization, so he understands how non profit organizations work and function. He previously worked for the  Dunn County Historical Society as their head of education and programming.

Leslie HeaphyLeslie Heaphy: Dr. Leslie Heaphy is an Associate Professor in the Department of History at Kent State University. An admitted New York Mets fan, Dr. Heaphy has published several works on women in baseball and on the Negro leagues. She has also been the editor of the journal Black Ball since 2008 and is highly active in the Society for American Baseball Research.

Charlie Sprague, 19th Century Pitcher

Eric MiklichEric Miklich has been a 19th century base ball player since 1998, fielding all positions and playing in more than 450 19th century games. He is a pitcher on one of the most prestigious 19th century clubs in the United States, the Mutual Club of New York. Eric has researched information on the history of pitching deliveries for his website, www.19cbaseball.com.

Putting the "Fun" in Funding a Vintage Base Ball Program: How to Be Successful at Grant Writing

Matt Stone: On February 23, 2019, Central Valley Vintage Base Ball came into existence. After several years of digging up the historical documentation, Matt Brandywine Stone, created not one, not two, not three, but four 1864 vintage base ball clubs. Central Valley Vintage Base Ball (CVVBB) was able to request and receive funding via grants from California Humanities and the Schwemm Family Foundation.
